Oooo foresty

Some things...
I've been reading C.S. Lewis' "Mere Christianity" and it is helping me think through cultural relativism with analogies about piano keys.

"... atheism turns out to be too simple. If the whole universe has no meaning, we should never have found out that it has no meaning: just as, if there were no light in the universe and therefore no creatures with eyes, we should never know if was dark. Dark would be a word without meaning."

And I've been thinking about what I've read elsewhere about time, and worship, and how that writing echoes lots of my own thoughts. But I don't write those kind of thoughts here. What I write here is just reminders of things that are starting points for other ideas.

So
Last couple of days I've been reading about mori gyaru or "forest girls" for my dissertation, which has been fun - they're a subculture in Japan, and they love natural handmade things and leather bound journals, and crochet, and old-fashioned photography etc etc... I think there's a lot of mori gyaru type things around at the moment. Bits of it appeal, but lots of it is quite twee and yoghurty, you know what I mean. And at the same time as reading about them, I'm reading about how Foucault desperately wanted to avoid being pigeonholed, even as an author. I think all of us veer between wanting to be part of something and wanting to be different all the time, and being very confused. ("They're chasing their tails trying to be you"...) Could write more but am avoiding any conclusions, and it's all old thoughts anyway.

Also watched "I'm Here" and downloaded bits of its soundtrack, and watched a slightly stilted Japanese film called "Heavenly Forest" in the last week, and done some doodles of muscles from a Dorling Kindersley anatomy book. Probably standard mori gyaru type activities. I'm gonna put some hair gel in and listen to Oasis to balance it out.
